This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle your information when you use OpenProtein.

 

1) What we collect

  • Account data: name, email, auth identifiers (via Clerk).
  • Profile & content: protein designs, sequences, project data, and other information you create or upload.
  • Connected sources: with your permission, we may integrate with services like PDB, UniProt, or research databases to enhance your protein design workflow.
  • Usage & device data: pages viewed, features used, approximate location, device/browser info, cookies or similar technologies.
  • Support & feedback: messages you send us (email, forms, support tickets).
 

2) How we use data

  • Provide and improve the protein design platform (incl. AI models and analysis features).
  • Operate accounts, authentication, and security.
  • Process protein sequences and provide design recommendations.
  • Respond to inquiries, send transactional emails.
  • Develop new features and understand usage patterns.
  • Comply with law and enforce our Terms.
 

3) Legal bases (EU/UK users)

We rely on legitimate interests (to provide and improve the Service), contract (to deliver requested features), and consent (where required, e.g., email updates or third-party integrations).

 

4) Sharing

We share data with vendors that help us run OpenProtein: Clerk (authentication), Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), and email services. We may also share data when you connect third-party integrations (e.g., research databases), or when required by law, or to prevent harm.

 

5) Retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described or as required by law. Protein designs and sequences are retained as part of your active projects. You may request deletion (see "Your rights").

 

6) Security

We use technical and organizational measures appropriate to protect your research data. No method is 100% secure; report security issues to security@openprotein.dev.

 

7) International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than yours. Where applicable, we use safeguards like standard contractual clauses to protect your information.

 

8) Your rights

  • Access, correct, or delete your data and protein designs.
  • Object or restrict certain processing.
  • Export your protein sequences and project data (data portability).
  • Withdraw consent where we rely on consent.

9) Children

OpenProtein isn't intended for children under 16. If we learn we collected such data, we will delete it.

 

10) Research data

Your protein designs and sequences remain your intellectual property. We do not claim ownership of your research data, but you grant us permission to process it to provide our services.

 

11) Changes

We may update this policy; we'll revise the date above. Continued use means you accept the changes.
